I got to serve bugs to Dr. Ordon on The Doctors! By the way, they edited out the part where I advise NOT to eat bugs raw, in general. I have eaten these larvae raw in the past (once on a radio show), but mainly because I am aware of their origins and I feel pretty confident they are safe. Again, in general, my advice is to treat bugs like you would any other meat: cook 'em! They taste better that way, anyhow. Also, if you're allergic to shellfish, forego insects -- studies have found they are closely linked, biologically. Everyone else, bug appetit!

According to the United Nations some 40 per cent of children under the age of five are severely undernourished in Laos, because of a lack of protein in their diets. But food charities are hoping that a move towards insect farming in the country could help overcome the problem. The UN's Food and Agriculture Organisation, which is supporting efforts in Laos, says bugs contain a high protein and vitamin content. Al Jazeera's Charles Stratford reports from Vientiane.
